The painting captures a bright day where the turquoise colour of the sea does not mirror the one of the sky. Bowmore still stands proud despite the white limewash battered by the elements.

Off the path, view from the beach where the low tide encovers the beauty of the estuary. In this work, the light and the elements were the main protagonists. I loved the reflection in the water and playing with perspectives to give depth to the landscape.

"L'Horizon" is all about space and lines. It shows how little human beings are in the grand scheme of things. I particularly liked working on the "ripples" of sand on the beach sculpted by the wind and the clouds scattered in the sky.

My eyes were drawn to this big patch of green, the grass embedded in the sandy dunes, brushed by the strong winds. I remember seeing some sheep who tried to find shelter in small holes on the flank of the heights. In the background, the mineral colours of the sea and the coast contrast with the bright green grass where a hidden cottage stands still.

The tide was low and left exposed the vestige of an old anchor, the boats on their keels, and
the bare walls surrounding the houses, the last defence against the elements. I wanted to capture the change of the landscape that the low tide has uncovered, and the complete futility of the boats without water in the background.

The small village of Port Charlotte on Islay, Scotland, and its lovely cottages packed against each other as if they needed some sort of protection is inspiring by its colours and lines. I have enjoyed depicting the mineral element of the rocks against the blue of the sea and the warm colour of the seaweed.

The washing Line

This idea of painting a washing line has been creeping into my head for a while. Not any...the Washing Line of Port Charlotte on Islay-That dot of colour in the grey horizon that intrigued me. That was the moment when that painting came to life in my mind. As much as these islands are made of rocks, sand, and water, that touch of colour shows signs of life on the island.

View from a bridge over the beck in Staithes. The beck carved its bed in the cliff, finding slowly its path to the sea. Only a few cottages witness its moves as the tide sets the pace.
